First, David Chartier came up to me at the last NSCoder and said, “you know, your website is still the default Apache page.” I realized it had been at least a year since I last had anything at all on this domain… probably the first time since 1997 that it’s been that vacant for so long. I can’t even remember everything that’s been at this URL over the years, to be honest. It’s been a long time.

Then, I saw this excellent post by Aijaz Ansari detailing Octopress. Not that I needed to mess around with yet another blogging system, but I’m just kind of sick of Wordpress by this point.

I hate PHP, I hate editing in browsers, and I’ve set up approximately 1,934 Wordpress blogs for jobs, friends, and family. Now I’m sitting here in BBEdit, using Markdown, and building the blog in a terminal window. It feels more like my normal workflow and less like I’m fighting the system to get anything done.

The whole setup, including writing this post, took less than 30 minutes. I haven’t messed with the default theme, or the plugin system, or anything really; but so far, so good.

Who knows if I’ll actually get any time to blog, or have anything actually worth posting. But at least this doesn’t say “Welcome to CentOS” anymore.
